I love them both, but I will have to disagree with William Shatner here. Star Wars is not derivative of Star Trek. Sure there are some influences, but there are influences from many works and genres present. Also ILM worked on every Star Trek film (and I believe TV series) to some degree from at least Wrath of Khan going forward (I can’t speak to the JJ Abrams’ 2009 remake and ILM may have been absent for Star Trek V).
That said, I think even Shatner knows he is just being a goofball here in this interview.
